My Photo Sessions...
Every person has got photos taken in their lifetime and I'd like to
share some of mine with you.  Photos of when something
happened that basically one will remember all his or her lifetime.
You will find out why it was so easy writing songs like Deer
Hunting Season Again by just viewing some of the photos on my
website.

If you think for one minute that I wouldn't have rather been doing
something else but practicing, check out the photo of me when I
was 7 years old.  Then tell me I enjoyed practicing.   It is always
after the fact that one takes a good hard look at his or her past
and in my case, I'm real glad that dad insisted that I play the
accordion.

Even though I played sports, (I lettered in wrestling), and I played
basketball and track, i guess I was destined to be an entertainer.
I think back on my high school years and I think back on all the
jocks that were good friends of mine and you know what?  None
of them ever went on to become a Bret Farve or a Reggie White
or a Mark Tauscher.  No, they didn't and they were really good.
But I, on the other hand, went on to use my talents as a musician
many times in my lifetime, getting paid top dollar for something I
truly enjoyed doing.  I was able to fall back on entertainment and
making people happy when there was nothing else available.

Yes it's true, I didn't enjoy learning but now after 55 years I'm
happy that my dad insisted that I learn how to play music.  Many
times in my lifetime it's been a God sent.

I invite you to take a trip through my lifetime and to meet some of
the people that have made a difference in my world and to see
that entertaining wasn't all I did while growing up in Central
Wisconsin.  In this photo session you'll meet my mom, my dad and
my six siblings.   You'll also see people that made a difference.

Take a tour of my lifetime and read all I have to say about what
was going on when that picture was taken.  Enjoy a trip to my past
and I hope that you appreciate seeing the things that meant a lot
in my life.
Entertaining the troops at home.
Things were not always that good.
Most of the time in my early years i
didn't want to practice as you can see
from this picture when I was seven/
Here I wasn't crying and things were
not always so bad when I practiced.
In this picture I'm a little
older.  This is me with my
second accordion.  Notice
the sheet music,  I never did
learn the art of reading
music.
This is my mom and dad sitting with Leo &
Ruby Cruse.  Leo suggested that I
change one word in Walking The Floor
and I did and it has worked till now.
I love to fish.  Here I am
at about 16 with a 15
1/2" Perch.
You thought that all I did was Music?  Not hardly.  I got to paint all the picture windows in
the home place every Christmas.
This is a picture of me at 16 trying to
teach my sister how to play the organ.
Central Wisconsin was a farmer community.  I showed
cows, horses and chickens at the local fairs.  In this
picture I am shown with my prize Holstein named
Tebbie and my brother is riding Sugarlump.
At age 16 or 17 dad brought home this
white spinet piano.  This is about the
age that i really preferred Piano to
piano accordion.
17 years old and a senior in high
school I needed an instrument for
band.  The band director asked me
what I played.  I asked him what he
needed and he said I need a tuba
player and I told him he was looking at
a tuba player.
At 20 years of age Uncle Sam sent me a letter.  He
desired my body working for him.  This is a picture in
September of 1967 with my family heading for Viet Nam.
This is a picture of the caterpillar that my dad
buried when we kids built a fort under the plum
trees.  This was not one of the happier times for
the Frey kids.  We never dug another hole on
the property as long as we can remember.
Just before going into service in
February 1966 I had purchased
this 1965 Chevy four speed 2
door hardtop.  I had to get rid of
it in 1967 before shipping off to
Viet Nam.
In my later years, age 19, here I am
pictured entertaining at one of the
many talent shows I completed in.
Here's a picture of the most loving and tolerable
dog I have ever had.  His name was Sudsy and
this was a sight that many people seen many
times.  Sudsy didn't mind all the cats in the
neighborhood climbing aboard.  In fact he loved it.
This was my grandfather.  George Frey.  He lost his
arm early in life working at Roddis Lumber Factory,
He passed away on the home place.  Notice the
Frankie Yankovic music book.
Yes I was a farmer at one time in my
life. Winning Star Green Hand Farmer
in FFA in high school I was also active
in Mara Wood 4H.  Here I am pictured
with the rest of the club shown at our
display at the Fair.
In High school band I played Clarinet, Tuba and
Trumpet as seen here.
Playing with Howie Strurtz and his
Orchestra was always a real pleasure.
Pictured here is my Uncle Elmer and
my good friend and excellent guitarist
Gene Lafond.
I learned to play the organ when the
church needed a church organist.  I
also did the solo and wrote all the solo's
I sang at the church.
Pictured here with my dad and Gene
LaFond I was 14 at the time.
This picture is of me with some of the
items I built for showing at the local fair
in 4H.
While I was on leave and headed for
Viet Nam I was informed that the
foreign exchange student from Brazil
was not being taken to the Junior Ball
so I volunteered.  Here I am pictured
with her.  Her name was Loni.
Here's a picture of my Uncle Elmer with Gene's happy
face in the background.  Uncle Elmer is the person
that taught me the Dream Of Heaven Waltz.
21 years of age here I am playing for
one of the many dealer shows for my
dad's mobile home company at
Louisville Kentucky.  The girl shown
with me is a friend of mine that I met in
Louisville when I was stationed at Fort
Knox Kentucky.
This picture was taken in the barracks in Viet Nam
and shows me playing the guitar.  Didn't have my
accordion over there.  This is the way we normally
dressed when we were off duty.  It was just plain
hot, hot, hot!!!
